MY TRANSFORMATION STORY
I grew up as an athlete, playing competitive hockey mainly, and ever since the day my dad brought home an old set of dumbbells, a barbell, and a bench press when I was 12 years old I’ve always wanted a lean and muscular body.
As I got into high school, I attempted to start lifting weights a little more consistently, but since I didn’t have the slightest clue about how to train, nevermind eat properly, I didn’t see any results at all and quickly lost interest.
From there things started to take a turn.
Starting at the young age of 16, my athletic endeavors came to a complete halt and were replaced with binge drinking and partying.
After I graduated high school, I started playing hockey again.
I’ll always remember coming off the ice after my first shift.
I sat down on the bench, and for the first time it became clear that my bad habits were negatively impacting my health…
It was like looking in the mirror for the first time in years.
I was completely out of breath and my lungs burned with each desperate gasp for air.
The thought of that began to keep me up at night.
I’d lay awake thinking about the state of my health.
And at that point I knew I HAD to FULLY COMMIT to a complete lifestyle change, or things would only get worse.
So I went to the gym, and spent all of my savings on a 6 month membership.
At first, being as scrawny, soft, weak, and out of shape as I was, it wasn’t easy.
But I stayed consistent through the first few embarrassing months and as I started getting stronger, seeing physical progress and feeling better overall, training quickly became my new obsession which made it easy for me to quit drinking, partying and all of the bad habits I had developed cold turkey.
After experiencing the way that training made me feel, it was a complete no brainer.
But after the first 6-12 months of training, I got stuck.
The random workout routines I was finding online were no longer working.
And for the next 2-3 years, despite working harder, trying tons of different training programs, and following strict diets, I remained stuck.
I spent all of my free time searching on the internet for answers, until I finally stumbled upon the evidence based fitness world.
Although the information I had found was far from light reading, I knew I was headed in the right direction and quickly became obsessed.
I spent all of my free time studying and implementing what I was learning.
It lead to consistent, predictable and impressive results, which then lead to friends, family members, co-workers and even random people in the gym coming to me for help.
That is when I began to fall in love with the art and science of bodybuilding, health, fitness, and with helping others transform their physiques.
A few years later I decided that it was a complete no-brainer for me to quit my lucrative job as a journeyman electrician in the oilfield, to pursue my passion helping other men get into incredible shape.
And as a result, in 2018 Alpha Physique Fitness was born.
